Royal Jordanian airline has unveiled its new e-freight system that was developed in collaboration with CHAMP Cargosystems to serve the air cargo industry and enable cargo agents to book cargo and create airway bills, according to Shipping Gazette.
E-freight is one of the industry initiatives of IATA's Simplifying the Business (StB) programme launched a few years ago that aims to take the paper out of air cargo and replace it with electronic data.
VP cargo sales and services Muath Majali said the airline's cargo sector is the second fundamental arm of the company.
He stressed that the carrier is eager to offer state-of-the-art services to its customers and agents in order to meet their demands and great additional freighter capacity.
According to Mr Majali, the system is bound to increase the volume of cargo on the company's aircraft.
He pointed out that the 24-hour self-service application enables cargo agents anywhere in the world to look up flight schedules, check capacity, create real-time bookings and manage bookings unassisted.
The e-freight system connects directly with the electronic system that is applied at the Jordanian Customs Department to speed up the clearance of goods and delivery to the consignee, reported Zawya.
