Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi has entered an agreement with Zhengzhou Comprehensive Experimental Zone for Airport-Based Economy, to set up an assembly plant and delivery centre for the 108-seat SSJ-100 regional jet.
Zhengzhou will become the third in China after Tianjin and Shanghai that has the assembly line for a type of aircraft that has more than 100 seats, said Xinhua.
Henan's Oubei Aircraft will play a role in aircraft sales, leasing, maintenance and fuel supply, and will buy 100 SSJ-100s for CNY20 billion (US$3.21 billion).
This is the first time that Sukhoi has built aircraft outside its Moscow base. The first Chinese SSJ-100 aircraft is expected to be delivered from the Zhengzhou plant in two years.
Besides aircraft manufacturing, Sukhoi also plans to operate other business including air logistics and training bringing many job opportunities for the region.
Zhengzhou Comprehensive Experimental Zone for Airport-Based Economy is first of such facility in China. It occupies 4.15 square kilometres. The zone aims to achieve an air cargo throughput of three million tonnes by 2025 and a trade value of US$200 billion. It also targets aviation-related core business revenue of CNY1 trillion.
The facility is said to promote China's aviation-based economy and boost further opening-up of the country's central hinterland region.
The Sukhoi SSJ-100 aircraft enjoys advantages of low take-off weight, low fuel consumption, low noise, being easy to repair and cost-efficiency. There are nine carriers in five countries using more than 50 of them, according to Shipping Gazette.
