Lufthansa Cargo's wholly owned subsidiary, Jettainer, which takes care of a fleet of 70,000 unit load devices (ULD) for 14 airlines, has announced that Carsten Hernig has become its managing director.
Mr Hernig, who assumed the top post at the beginning of the year, will lead the company until the end of March in collaboration with Alexander Plumacher, who is leaving the company on April 1 after six years at the helm.
"We are delighted to have won Carsten Hernig for this position, seeing that he is not only a home grown talent, but also an experienced international manager," said executive board member Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht.
Mr Hernig's career at Lufthansa covers 15 years. A business graduate, he initially worked in Singapore as a manager of marketing control and capacity planning in the Asia-Pacific region.
In 2003 he was appointed sales manager in Russia and the CIS countries based in Moscow, before he was called upon to manage the South China, Hong Kong and Taiwan regions.
Most recently, he held the position of regional director for South Asia, the Middle East and Pakistan based in New Delhi, where he was responsible for station operation, sales and marketing in 19 countries with 29 offices in South Asia, the Gulf region and Middle East.
The company said in a statement that Alexander Plumacher is departing from Jettainer upon his own request in order to face new challenges.
Said Dr Rupprecht: "Under the leadership of Alexander Plumacher, the company achieved to position itself as a global provider of quality and also found worldwide acceptance in the market."
