Emirates SkyCargo begins 2014 on a winning streak

Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has added two highly coveted accolades to its impressive list of industry awards in the last few weeks.
The airline was awarded the ‘International Cargo Airline of the Year’ by STAT Trade media group at the recently concluded Air Cargo India 2014 awards evening, which was held at the Westin Hotel in Mumbai last week.
Emirates SkyCargo was also voted the ‘Top Cargo Handling Airline of Cochin 2013’ by the Customs Department at the International Customs Day Celebration held in Kochi recently.
Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo along with Pradeep Kumar, Emirates Senior Vice President Cargo Revenue Optimisation and Systems received the ‘International Cargo Airline of the Year’ award from Mr. Des Vertannes, Global head of Cargo, IATA. Whereas, V. M Dinesh, Emirates’ Cargo Manager in Kerala, accepted the “Top Cargo Handling Airline of Cochin 2013” award from Honourable Chief Guest P.K. Hormis Tharakan, IPS (Retd.) former DGP (Kerala) and DG (RAW) at a gala evening event held in Kerala. Esteemed guests representing the power houses of the Indian cargo sector were present at both these the august gatherings.
Commenting on the achievements Nabil Sultan said: “Both the awards are a testimony of the unflagging efforts by the team to make Emirates SkyCargo a successful cargo airline in the India market. Both STAT Trade awards and The International Customs Day Celebrations are widely recognized not only in India but across the globe. These accolades are considered to be a benchmark for reviewing performances in the Cargo Industry. We are delighted to win this year and I would like to congratulate the entire India team for the constant effort they have put in to make this possible.”
The airline carries over 1,400 tonnes of weekly cargo combined from Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. Additionally, it operates two weekly freighters with a capacity of over 200 tonnes payload on the Dubai–Mumbai-Dubai route as well as the Dubai-Chennai-Hong Kong–Dubai route.
Overall, Emirates SkyCargo carried over 2 million tonnes of cargo inclusive of imports and exports in the calendar year 2013.
India imported over US$28 billion worth of goods from the UAE in 2011, while exports to the UAE stood at nearly US$10 billion. The trade volume between the two countries reached over US$52 billion. This demonstrates the strong trade ties between the two countries and the country’s increasing importance for our operations.Emirates SkyCargo is known for continuously innovating its offerings to clients by implementing the latest technology. This has helped create goodwill for the brand across markets in India and globally.
In addition to this award, SkyCargo has in recent times been presented with a number of prestigious industry awards. These include ‘Cargo Airline of the Year 2013’ (Air Cargo Week), ‘Cargo Airline of the Year 2013’, ‘Best Middle East Cargo Airline’ (both Air Cargo News), ‘Best Air Cargo Carrier Middle East’ (AFSCA), ‘Cargo Operator of the Year’ (SCATA) and ‘Air Cargo Excellence Award’ (Air Cargo World).
Emirates currently operates 185 weekly flights from India and connecting it to the Emirates global network via Dubai.
