HACTL's air cargo dives 40pc in December

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (HACTL) handled in December 2013 a total of 153,386 tonnes of cargo, representing a decrease of 40.3 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier, according to the Shipping Gazette.
Cargo volumes from Hong Kong's three top trade partners, Europe with 48,839 tons, Southeast Asia with 39,879 tons and North America with 34,942 tons, were down 14.3 per cent, -48.9 per cent and -40.2 per cent, respectively, compared to December 2012, according to figures provided by HACTL.
Within the December total, import cargo amounted to 43,877 tons, down 29.3 per cent year on year, while export cargo was down 23.1 per cent year on year to 100,707 tons, reports Bloomberg News.
Total transshipment volume in December fell by 86.2 per cent compared to the same month the previous year to 8,802 tons.
