The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) has reiterated its support for the construction of a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport to meet future air cargo and passenger demand.
Andrew Herdman, AAPA director general, said: "Aviation has indisputably played a crucial role in Hong Kong's successful development as a major tourism destination and a leading international centre for business and professional services, trading and transport logistics."
The director general said that with living standards in the Asia Pacific region continuing to rise, it's very clear that demand for air travel will continue to grow, the Atlanta area Air Cargo World reported.
"Hong Kong needs a third runway in order to remain competitive as a major aviation hub, and take advantage of such future growth opportunities. Air transport exists to serve the local community, and fully recognises the need to take into account environmental and social considerations when building the required new infrastructure. These are important concerns that need to be addressed and resolved," Mr Herdman added.
