IATA traffic results improving

2010-2-9

THE International Air Transport Association reported international scheduled traffic results for October 2009 showing improving conditions. Demand for international cargo rose to 0.5 per cent below previous year levels. This is significantly better than the 5.4 per cent year-on-year decline recorded in September. Load factors for cargo were at 54.1 per cent.

October cargo capacity was 7.4 per cent below the previous year's levels, helping to slow the erosion in yields.

Cargo capacity adjustments have come following many freighters being put into storage or retired, resulting in a fleet reduction of 4.9 per cent. In contrast, the passenger fleet continues to expand by 1.8 per cent as new deliveries more than offset those being stored or retired.
