The world's largest forwarder is expecting tight airfreight capacity from Asia to Europe in the weeks ahead. DHL Global Forwarding has lined up additional lift for the first quarter of this year.
According to DGF, the first three months of 2010 promise a departure from the traditional pattern of decreases in demand after the year-end holiday. The capacity outlook and customer forecasts suggest that capacity constraints are going to continue throughout the first three months of this year, the forwarder signalled.
Demand out of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea is expected to be particularly strong in the run-up to the factory closures around Chinese New Year, DGF warned."In order to mitigate the shortage of space we will be securing extra capacity from commercial carriers on our trade lanes between North Asia and Europe throughout the first quarter of 2010," said Thomas Nieszner, DGF chief executive officer, Europe.
