The premiers of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan have given their strong endorsement of the economic benefits of "open skies" air services agreements, through the formal signing of a joint declaration.
The three provinces committed to continue to exchange information, as well as work with industry and other government jurisdictions to promote open skies.
Barry Rempel, chairman of the Canadian Airports Council (CAC), said: "As Canada's three premiers today acknowledged, Canada's unique geographic position gives our country a tremendous opportunity to serve as a gateway from Asia and Europe to the Americas."
Open skies agreements lift most restrictions on the number of flights that airlines can fly between two countries that sign them.
Canada already enjoys open skies agreements with eight countries, including the US and South Korea, while a liberal air services agreement also was reached earlier this year with the EU.
