2009-7-2

UK union Unite has welcomed the announcement by Home Secretary Alan Johnson that he intends to drop the planned roll out of identity cards for airside workers.

Unite national officer Brian Boyd said: "National safety very often begins at UK airports, and our members who work airside are in the front line in this respect. However, the government's plans were flawed."

Unite represents more than 70,000 aviation workers in the UK.
