Aviation department rejects idea of AoT managing Krabi

2009-3-18

The Civil Aviation Department of Thailand has rejected the idea of Airports of Thailand (AoT) taking over the management of Krabi provincial airport, the Bangkok Post reported.

The department said the transfer of airports must cover all provincial airports, not just those making a profit.

Wutthichai Singhamanee, deputy chief of the Civil Aviation Department, said the Air Transport Rehabilitation and Development Committee, chaired by Srisook Chandrangsu, had discussed the proposal to have the Airports of Thailand take over Krabi airport.

Krabi is the only airport under the department that makes a profit.

The department rejected the proposal. It wants to transfer the management of all 26 provincial airports because it does not believe it should have this role.
