Avient Aviation

2009-12-7

Avient Aviation's first MD-11 freighter was involved in a fatal crash at Shanghai's Pudong Airport, just days after entering service for the Zimbabwean carrier.

Three of the seven crew members died in the crash, with another in a serious but stable condition.

Local sources said the aircraft's tail had hit the ground during take-off and the freighter crashed at the end of the runway.

The aircraft was operating a charter flight that was understood to have originated in the UK, and due to return from Shanghai via Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Avient said the cause of the crash remained unclear.
