China Southern Airlines said on Tuesday it would raise its fuel surcharge on international flights by more than 30 percent as it grapple with high fuel prices.
China Southern said it would raise the fuel surcharge for round-trip tickets on long-haul international flights to CNY2,200 yuan (USD$320.70) from CNY1,600 yuan, an increase of 37.5 percent.
For short-distance international flights, including to Southeast Asia, the charge for round-trip flights will be raised to CNY1,100 from CNY840, up 31 percent.
The surcharge increase will go into effect from July 10.
Major Chinese airlines, also including Air China and China Eastern Airlines, on June 30 announced a rise in fuel surcharges for domestic flights of up to 50 percent, after regulators raised the country's ex-refinery jet fuel prices by CNY1,500 per tonne earlier in the month.
The price increase was a double blow for the airlines, which have also faced a drop in passenger volume in recent months triggered in part by May's devastating earthquake in southwest China.
