Sit down protest at Gatwick Airport

2008-7-21

Two people were arrested by police after passengers staged a sit-down protest at Gatwick Airport yesterday when their flight was cancelled.

The protest came after about 200 people who had tickets for an Air Namibia charter flight to Ghana were unable to check in. Sussex Police told the BBC that two people were arrested after the sit-down protest began to disrupt other passengers. The pair were released without charge.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: 'There was a sit-down protest at the North Terminal at Gatwick Airport following a flight cancellation to Ghana. As a result of the protest there was some disruption to other passengers checking in for their flights. Two individuals were arrested and subsequently released without charge.'

An airport spokesman said the flight was the responsibility of the tour operator.
