Amanda Wills, the Managing Director of Virgin Holidays, opened the VROOM - Virgin's new Gatwick airport lounge - today with a well-aimed salvo of confetti canons.
The airline says that the VROOM, a VIP lounge for Virgin Holidays passengers, is a unique concept in the package holiday business, as no other tour operator in the world has a facility quite like it. It's also nothing like a traditional airport lounge either. Whereas the Virgin Clubhouse across the other side of the airport has remit of pampering adults with its bars and salons, the VROOM is unashamedly tailored for families with kids.
Inside the lounge passengers will find high-ceilinged spaces to eat, relax, and play - with a big emphasis on fun. Occupying the space that was once Continental's lounge, Virgin Holidays have created multiple zones. In the Tech Zone big kids can play table football, surf the Internet, or blast through video games. There is a separate play area for smaller kids, featuring bump-friendly soft fittings.
For those who want to get away from the distractions of children, one end of the main room is dedicated as an adult chill-out zone (and alcohol is available at the bar for less than it costs in the main terminal) There's a selection of complimentary hot and cold food, soft drinks and coffee. It also has probably the best view of the airfield available at Gatwick.
Entry to the lounge costs £15 for adults, £10 for kids and free for infants - and the price of entry includes Fast Track security. Only Virgin Holidays customers on a full package can buy in, and entry is capacity-controlled, with a maximum of 180 guests at any one time. The VROOM is open from 06:30 - 13:00 daily (Fast Track at Gatwick opens at 07:00). |
