BAA has turned to the London Underground for a second time in a month to fill a key management position. The UK airports operator announced yesterday that it had appointed Stephen Peat as managing director for a new division running six of the group's seven airports.
Mr Peat will oversee Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton - all of BAA's airports except Heathrow. He joins BAA on July 1 from Amey, itself part of Ferrovial, BAA's controlling shareholder, where he is operations director at Tube Lines, a consortium partly owned by Amey that is responsible for regenerating the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines for London Underground.
Colin Matthews, Chief Executive Officer of BAA, said: 'I am delighted to have secured the services of Stephen Peat, who has a strong track record in managing change and growing businesses in challenging operational environments. I am determined to build a strong team, which will deliver higher standards and better airport facilities for passengers and airlines. While we clearly have work to do, this latest appointment to the senior team is a further step in the right direction.'
Before taking up his role at Tube Lines, Mr Peat was Managing Director of Amey Rail and also worked in senior positions at Tarmac and Wimpey construction. His appointment follows that of Mike Brown, chief operating officer at London Underground, who will be BAA's new head of Heathrow. |
