IATA selects Spain for e-freight pilot

2008-6-22

IATA has selected Spain as a pilot country to develop its e-freight project - the main goal of which is eliminating most of paper documentation in air cargo flows.

An exclusive group of the Madrid Air Cargo Community, mainly formed by customs, airlines, forwarders and handling agents, has participated in the evaluation of the necessary requirements for this project.

The group has elected Iberia as the leading partner of this project, as the airline company has had its own electronic airwaybill, IBERIA CARGO e-AWB, available on the Spanish domestic traffic since June 2007.

The endorsement of Madrid as a prime base inside the Spanish market to develop IATA's e-freight is going to bring several profits for the different stakeholders in the Spanish air cargo, such as more dynamic operating procedures, costs savings and environmental impact reductions.
