Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, Norman Baker said today that the WWF report on aviation, which questions the need for airport expansion in the light of the impact of rising oil prices on the number of flights, is 'yet further evidence that the Government's determination to bulldoze through a third runway at Heathrow is not only environmentally damaging but also economically unviable.'
He said: 'A Government that continues to argue that oil will cost $70 a barrel in 2020 has no credibility. The more realistic figure provided by this report shows that Labour has to change its policy. The Department for Transport has to stop acting like a wholly owned subsidiary of BAA.' |
