Air Mauritius said on Friday it expects profit in fiscal 2009 to drop to EUR4 million euros (USD$6.2 million) from EUR16 million the year before due to rising fuel prices.
"Under prevailing market conditions and current fuel prices the company is estimating that it will make a profit of around EUR4 million for the next financial year," the carrier said in a statement.
The statement did not say whether the figures were before or after tax. In fiscal 2007 the airline made a pretax loss of EUR6.4 million.
Air Mauritius bought two new planes at the end of 2006 and started a cost-cutting program expected to save between EUR50 million and EUR60 million over three years.
