British Airways increased its long-haul fuel surcharge between the end of the 2006/07 and 2007/08 financial years by 113%, while its overall fuel costs only increased by 6.4% according to its latest accounts, Business Travel World reports.
In its annual report, the airline said that fuel costs for 2007/08 were £2,055m, an increase of 6.4% on the £1,931m spent in the previous year. However, the airline's fuel surcharge on long-haul flights of more than nine hours rose from £30 to £64 per sector in the same time period - a rise of 113%.
A BA spokeswoman told businesstravelworld.com: 'Fuel surcharge only recovers a part of our fuel costs. We keep the level of surcharge under constant review and make adjustments where appropriate.' |
