Asur April Passenger Traffic Growth Slows

2008-5-8

Mexican airport operator Asur said on Wednesday its passenger traffic growth in April slowed from the first three months of the year amid economic weakness in the United States, Mexico's main trading partner.

Asur, which operates nine airports in southern Mexico, including one serving the Caribbean beach resort of Cancun, said passenger traffic rose 5.3 percent in April, down from double-digit expansion in the first three months of the year.

Asur reported 18.7 percent traffic growth in March, a 20 percent increase in February, and a 15.7 percent rise in January.

Part of the reason for the dip in April, Asur said, was that Easter fell in March this year versus April last year.
