Gatwick policing deal agreed

An agreement has been brokered over the cost of policing Gatwick Airport. BAA Gatwick, Sussex Police and the Sussex Police Authority has announced that they have agreed a one year deal for the level of police presence and how it would be funded.

While the police bodies have not released details of the agreement they said they were pleased with the terms. Lionel Barnard, Sussex Police Authority chairman, said: 'I am pleased that agreement has been reached with Gatwick Airport on the policing of the airport for the coming year. With 35 million passengers every year and thousands of jobs dependent on the airport, effective policing and security are essential to its continued success.'

Andy Flower, Gatwick Airport's managing director, added: 'I'm pleased that, with this agreement, passengers using the airport and the Gatwick community are assured of the highest levels of security and protection.'
