FedEx paints gloomy picture as earnings fall

2008-3-27

FedEx Corp posted a six percent drop in third-quarter earnings because of a slowing US economy and high fuel prices.

The express courier expects lower fourth-quarter earnings from a year ago, as well as limited earnings growth for its next fiscal year.

FedEx earned US$393 million in the three months ended February 29 compared with $420 million the previous year. Revenue rose 10 percent to $9.44 billion.
