FedEx says its new hub in Hangzhou, China is setting new standards in shipping efficiency for the region and beyond.
The express package delivery giant began operations at its new China regional hub at Xiaoshan International Airport in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in May last year.
This state-of-the-art hub processes domestic time-definite packages and is capable of handling 9,000 packages an hour or 150 packages every minute, a company statement said.
"The FedEx US$4 million investment in the China Regional Hub is a tangible demonstration of our company's commitment to China. As the lynchpin of FedEx domestic service in the country, the facility at Hangzhou will enable us to deliver on our promise of next-business-day, time-definite service for our customers," a company statement said.
FedEx regards Hangzhou as having the most prosperous, non-governmental economy of any city in the country, describing it as a centre for entrepreneurial activity. Xiaoshan International Airport authorities have invested around CNY26 million (US$3.67 million) in infrastructure improvements for the new FedEx hub that it hosts, the release added.
