AF-KLM puts Alitalia offer on the table

2008-3-14

AIR France-KLM, has officially submitted its takeover offer for Alitalia, subject to the trade union support.

The takeover will be hampered by Italy's elections in mid-April. The newly elected government is the only authority able to give the go-ahead now that the current prime minister, Romano Prodi, is not up for re-election.

The integration of Alitalia into the Air France-KLM group will reinforce its position as a European leader and will also help Alitalia to regain its status as a national flag carrier.
