Italian flag carrier Alitalia air cargo posted a 3.8 per cent fall against a 7.6 per cent capacity reduction in January.
Passenger traffic also fell eight per cent despite a 4.5 per cent reduction in available seats.
The loss-making state-controlled airline, now in take-over talks with Air France-KLM, said the results reflected marketing strategy shift "which aims to increase profitability rather than preserve volumes."
Union sources told Reuters that the airline has appealed to its workers to open talks on the airline's situation and planned restructuring connected to Air France negotiations.
The airline says it requires a EUR750 million (US$1.1 billion) by the second quarter to sustain operations. |
