Haikou Meilan Airport to raise funds for air logistics centre

HAIKOU city expects to attract CNY400 million (US$55.31) investment in building an air logistics centre in Meilan International Airport, Xinhua reported.

The planned 800,000-square metre logistics centre will be developed in three phases and completed in 2010, the report said.

According to the plan, the first CNY120 million ($16.5 million) phase will develop 10,000 square metres of warehouses, 5,000 square metres of which will be bonded. There will also be 10,000-square metre distribution area, a 25,000-square metre cargo terminal with two cargo jet berths with annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes.

The CNY100 million second phase will expand the general warehousing area to 20,000 square metres, and bonded warehousing area to 10,000 square metres. The distribution centre area will rise to 25,000 square metres and the annual capacity of the logistics centre will double to 300,000 tonnes a year when the second phase is completed.

When the third phase is completed, the logistics centre will include 50,000-square metres of warehouse space, 30,000 square metres of which will be bonded. There will be 30,000-square metre distribution area, a 50,000-square metre cargo terminal and four cargo jet berths with an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes.

Statistics show cargo volume of the Meilan Airport reached a new high in 2007 of more than 100,000 tonnes, the report said.

Currently there are 95 services in Meilan Airport, of which 86 are domestic, connecting Haikou with 56 cities and nine international services.
