US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has announced that it took a record 1,413 orders for commercial aircraft in 2007 valued at US$171.1 billion.
A statement from Boeing said that a total of 80 different customers ordered aircraft in 2007, including passenger airlines, cargo carriers and leasing companies.
"2007 told us that global demand for commercial airplanes remains strong and sustained," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and chief executive Scott Carson.
Within this total, Boeing took orders for 83 freighters in 2007, setting a new company record, compared to registering gross orders for 81 in 2006 and 74 in 2005.
A report by Washington-based Aircargoworld said the 83 freighters were valued at $18.7 billion at list prices, representing 10 per cent of Boeing's order book for last year.
