ASIA's first budget carrier AirAsia is to start a twice-daily service from Guangzhou to Kuala Lumpur on January 16, Logistics Week reported.

This is AirAsia's fourth service to China after others to Macau, Xiamen and Shenzhen.

According to a statement from AirAsia quoted in the report of Nanyang Siang Pau, a Malaysian newspaper, the new service is aiming provide a cheaper and more convenient way for overseas workers to return home at Chinese New Year in February. AirAsia is also confident in the future market prospect of this line because of Guangzhou's status as China's manufacturing base.

AirAsia plans to shift its focus on the Chinese market in 2008. Besides Guangzhou service, the carrier is also going to launch new lines to Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Tianjin, Guilin and Hainan. The Hangzhou service is expected to start later this month and another to Hong Kong in March.
