AUSTRALIA's Qantas plans to raise international fuel surcharges after January 17 in response to record high fuel prices.
"The price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil passed US$100 a barrel last week, and Singapore Jets Fuel is currently trading at around US$114 a barrel," said Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti.
The new one-way fuel surcharges (ex-Australia) will be: A$210 (US$184) for flights to the UK and Europe, up from a previous surcharge of A$185; for flights to the US, Canada, South America, South Africa and India $165, up from $145; for flights to Asia, Pacific, Honolulu A$120, up from A$105; and for flights to New Zealand A$70, up from A$60 previously.
The airline's existing Australian and New Zealand domestic surcharges will remain unchanged at this stage. According to Mr Borghetti, the Australian domestic surcharges will continue at A$26 for Qantas and QantasLink jet services and A$24 for QantasLink turboprop services with both including GST, the carrier's release added.
