GARUDA Indonesia has announced that GSA Cargo Services will represent the airline in Australia and New Zealand as its cargo general sales and services agent.
GSA Cargo Services will be responsible for all of the carrier's cargo sales and marketing activities. With offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, the partnership with GSA Cargo Services is intended to grow the carrier's airfreight operations in Australasia, particularly in the export market.
Said GSA Cargo Services Donna Mayne: "Indonesia was the 10th largest destination for Australian airfreight last year, when Australia's airfreight exports totalled almost 5,300 tonnes and had a total value in excess of A$130 million (US$114 million)."
Sydney and Melbourne account for a significant portion of the Indonesian airfreight export and these ports, she said, adding that they are well serviced by Garuda Indonesia's A330-300 aircraft. "Garuda Indonesia also has two major advantages: direct services to Indonesia and competitive pricing," she said.
Garuda cargo manager Joe Haddad will remain with the carrier and undertake a liaison role between the company and the new cargo GSA, to ensure services continue during the transition to a cargo GSSA.
"Our aim is to make Garuda Indonesia a dominant force in the Australasian airfreight industry through enhanced marketing of the entire Garuda network," said Ms Mayne.
Garuda Indonesia operates 27 flights per week from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Darwin.
