2007-12-17

AGILITY has announced the signing of an agreement to acquire Paris-based Medgroup, an acquisition that includes Medorient Algeria, Medorient France and Med-Logistics UK.

Medgroup is a freight forwarding and logistics company that manages general cargo, fairs and exhibitions, as well as providing project logistics for the oil and gas industry. Its services complement two of Agility's three specialised business units - Project Logistics and Fairs & Events Logistics.

The acquisition of Medgroup is furthermore intended to strengthen Agility's global network by adding Algeria as a new country to the company's network while the Marseille office of Medorient France will extend Agility's presence in that country, a company statement said.

"By integrating Medgroup into our global network, we have not only expanded our reach in the North Africa and Europe, but also enhance the depth of our service offering," said Agility European CEO Beat Simon.

Medgroup has worked for many years as an agent providing integrated door to door forwarding and logistics services for Agility to Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. The Medgroup is also expected to support Agility's oil and gas industry business by providing comprehensive coverage of ports and customs clearance capabilities in Algeria.

Agility employs more than 29,000 at 550 offices in 100 countries and generates more than US$5.6 billion in annual revenue.
