SRI Lanka's logistics industry is calling for government action to speed up the implementation of a promised paperless cargo clearing system.
A part state-owned operator, eServices Lanka, was given the task five years ago and was supposed to have the system fully operational by 2003 but delays sent the venture bust.
"The current service provider will never achieve the objectives, so I urge the private sector to lobby government to throw away the current service provider or get a new service provider to compete with them," said Niral Kadawatharatchie, chairman of the Freight Forwarders Association.
eServices CEO Vinesh Athukorala, says delays have been caused because not all agencies that need to be connected to the system are ready to do so. |
