Dubai revamps civil aviation with two new agencies

2007-11-5

Dubai: Dubai Government has revamped the emirate's civil aviation sector by establishing the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) that will replace the Department of Civil Aviation, a statement said yesterday.

The Department of Civil Aviation, which operated Dubai International Airport for the last 47 years played a pioneering role in building it as the region's biggest aviation hub, will cease to exist.

The move comes at a time when the Jebel Ali airport is being developed to cater to 130 million passengers a year, making it the world's biggest greenfield airport development.

In another statement, the government also set up the Dubai City of Aviation - an umbrella organisation that incorporates the Dubai Airports Company, Dubai World Central, Dubai Air Traffic Navigation and others - all aviation-related assets of Dubai.
