THE Chinese government has granted an operating license to Northeastern Airlines, a joint venture formed by Sichuan Airlines and other investors.

The start-up airline will operate domestic passenger and cargo services with an A319 and two EMB-145 aircraft, according to the CAAC.

The airline will be based in the northeastern city of Shenyang.

Sichuan Airlines, based in the southwest province of Sichuan, is the second largest shareholder with a 33.5 per cent stake in the venture. The remaining stake is held by Shenyang government and two local companies.
